Robertson Oval Floodlighting
Robertson Oval is the premier sporting facility in Wagga Wagga which hosts, AFL, NRL, soccer, cricket and outdoor concerts / events and JRC Electrical Services are very proud to have been involved with this project. JRC was awarded the Wagga Wagga City Council Robertson Oval floodlighting project through the tendering process. This project had a budget of $1.82 Million and a fast approaching deadline as an AFL pre-season game between GWS and Brisbane Lions had been set in early March 2014. The project involved the installation of 6, 58 metre light towers with 500Lux of Floodlighting and site power supply with upgraded switchboards for each light tower. We overcame various challenges in this project like needing an irrigation system to remove water and sludge from a light tower as well as needing an Engineering design to fill the penetration with concrete and guarantee stability of that light tower. There were also other upgrade works at the same time during our construction where the actual playing surface and surrounds was being renovated.
See Youtube Video this will give you a real feel for the height of these towers and the WH&S issues we faced when standing the poles. The 2 light towers that ran adjacent to the Sturt Highway had to be swung over the main road and the existing High Voltage power lines. We weren`t allowed to close off the highway or isolate power during this time so a management plan had to be implemented to safely erect these poles. This project also included the installation of 4 light towers at the adjacent Bolton Park oval. These towers are smaller than the Robertson Oval lights but still involved a substantial underground cabling system and challenges of cranes to stand the light poles in a similar environment. The project was completed on time and budget for the AFL game and there were no call backs on any work during the defects and liability period.
